FLU AND COVID VACCINATIONS AUTUMN 2023

Who can have a flu vaccination this autumn?

These are the main groups eligible for a flu vaccine from 1 September 2023.

  • those aged 65 years and over
  • those aged 6 months to under 65 years in clinical risk groups
  • pregnant women
  • all children aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August 2023
  • carers in receipt of carer’s allowance, or those who are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person
  • close contacts of immunocompromised individuals
  • frontline social care and healthcare workers
  • primary school aged children not in a risk group will receive a vaccination at school

Please note that patients aged 50 to under 65 years of age not in a clinical risk group have not been included in the flu vaccination programme this year.

When and where can I have a flu vaccination?

We will be running flu vaccination clinics at Ampleforth Surgery and you will receive either a text or an email with a booking link to make an appointment, so please look out for a message.  If we do not have a mobile number or an email address for you we will send you a reminder letter, but please contact the surgery to book an appointment from the beginning of September if you think you are eligible.

Although you can choose to have your flu vaccination at a pharmacy rather than at the surgery, we have already ordered vaccines for our eligible patients and so would encourage you to have your vaccine at the surgery if possible.

What about covid vaccinations this autumn?

We will be offering only housebound patients a covid vaccination this autumn.  However we are working with a community pharmacy in York who may be able to offer covid vaccinations locally to our patients.  We will contact eligible patients as soon as we have further information, however if you would prefer to book a covid vaccination elsewhere now, the National Booking Service can be contacted on 119.

Ampleforth & Hovingham Surgeries have been awarded the TEAM EXCELLENCE AWARD 2023 by Hull York Medical School.

Out-of-Hours Palliative Care

Saint Catherine's Hospice is now offering out-of-hours palliative care advice and information (Palcall). Patients and carers can speak to a nurse for advice and support on the telephone. Palcall is available only when the GP surgery is closed, including bank holidays and weekends. The number is 01723 354506.

You can now follow us on Twitter (@AmpleforthGP) and Instagram (@AmpleforthSurgery).
